2026 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FLOWER & GARDEN SHOW
PLANT FUTURES
ABOUT PLANT FUTURES:
The Future in Bloom - A Living Demonstration
Wednesday 24th March - Sunday 28th March 2028
Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
Super Bloom, in partnership with Heliotope Studio, Evergreen Infrastructure and Mod Construction, will be creating an ambitious living laboratory to be housed within the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, with a spectacular floral garden demonstrating that beauty and climate compatibility are not mutually exclusive. Plant Futures will celebrate the beauty and luminosity of dry climate species, bringing a wonder that the public can wander through.
The immersive garden will transport visitors into a floral wonderland that will illuminate the diverse planting, highlighting that tolerant and climate forward plants can also be beautiful - and ultimately the perfect solution for bringing diverse, complex and robust green spaces into our cities. The garden has been cultivated especially for MIFGS with the process encompassing seed germination, plant cuttings and growing the plant communities in a modular system that celebrates the diversity and adaptability of the plants in collaboration with one another.
The garden will be a wondrous showcase of blooming beauty, an immersive floral experience designed to delight and captivate visitors with the nature possible in our cities.
Future Plants is made possible with the support of the Austem Foundation, Native Plant Project, Plant Growers Australia, Remarkable Trees, Botanix and Boomaroo Nurseries.
‘Resilience is no compromise on beauty. Through wonder and real-life experience, this garden will lead both the audience and industry to the climate-forward possibilities of plants and progressive planting design’.
Jac Semmler, Super Bloom.
‘More and more we look to the natural world to help us navigate our way through a changing planet. The more we can integrate living plants into our built environment, the more opportunities we have to encourage biodiversity, moderate micro-climates, and reduce energy intensive processes. More than that - the relationship between humans and plants is fundamental and sacred, and any opportunity to strengthen it should be celebrated’.
Jane Caught, Heliotope.
‘Evergreen Infrastructure is excited about connecting people to plants and promoting the essential role of greenery in design and green infrastructure. Our project highlights resilient, low-water planting solutions that thrive in a changing climate, using sustainable materials to inspire innovative approaches to public space. Through multi-disciplinary collaboration, we are looking forward to what this project demonstrates to both the public and the industry, showcasing the power of green spaces in shaping a sustainable future’.
Michael Casey, Evergreen Infrastructure.

ABOUT
HELIOTOPE
Jane was born on Wurundjeri Country, a home-birth in the Robin Boyd designed Handfield House, on the edge of the Birrarung | Yarra River—the river of mists—and moved as an infant to grow up in a remote part of Lutruwita | Tasmania, instilled with a deep love for and commitment to the natural environment. Completing her architectural studies at University of Melbourne (undergraduate) and RMIT (postgraduate), Jane co-founded the collaborative practice Sibling Architecture in 2012. She moved on to found Heliotope in 2021, determined to find a more responsible way of practising architecture in this place.
Her research and multi-disciplinary collaborations explore the development of low carbon, climate-adaptive projects; focusing on emergent technologies, construction industry waste streams and local production economies and ecosystems. She is an educator and maintains strong ties with academia. Her experience ranges across institutional, cultural and residential; from furniture and interiors to public space.
